Chongqing, one of China's four direct-controlled municipalities, is a sprawling metropolis located in the southwestern part of the country. Known as the "Mountain City" due to its rugged terrain and numerous hills, Chongqing is a city of dramatic landscapes and vibrant urban life. It is also referred to as the "Fog City" because of its frequent misty weather, which adds a mystical charm to its skyline.


Today, Chongqing is a major economic and industrial center in China. It is a key manufacturing base and a transportation hub, with the Yangtze River running through it, providing vital waterway connections. The city is also known for its rapid urban development and modern infrastructure, including impressive bridges, skyscrapers, and a comprehensive metro system.


Chongqing is famous for its spicy and flavorful cuisine, particularly its hot pot. Chongqing hot pot is renowned for its numbing and spicy broth made with Sichuan peppercorns and chili peppers. The city is a paradise for food lovers, offering a wide array of street food, local snacks, and traditional dishes that reflect its rich culinary heritage.

Surrounded by mountains and rivers, Chongqing boasts stunning natural scenery. The city is the gateway to the Three Gorges, a series of breathtaking gorges along the Yangtze River. Other notable natural attractions include the Wulong Karst National Geology Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its dramatic karst landscapes, and the Dazu Rock Carvings, ancient Buddhist sculptures carved into cliffs.


Itinerary Summary

Day 1: Arrival and Exploring the City Center

Start your day exploring Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street, Hongya Cave and Eighteen Ladder (十八梯). Experience the city's famous spicy hotpot at a local restaurant in the evening or Enjoy a cruise to see the city's impressive skyline illuminated at night, including the stunningly lit bridges and buildings.

 

Day 2: Cultural and Historical Exploration

Visit this well-preserved ancient town - Ciqikou to explore traditional teahouses, local snacks, and artisan shops. Learn about the history, culture, and geography of the Yangtze River and the Three Gorges area.

 

Day 3: Nature and Scenic Spots

Take a day trip to Wulong, famous for its stunning karst landscapes, including the Three Natural Bridges and the Furong Cave. It's about a two-hour drive from Chongqing.

 

Day 4: Leisure and Departure.

Start the day with a relaxing visit to this scenic park, known for its beautiful gardens and panoramic views of the city. Explore this ancient Buddhist temple (
